About the event

About this course:

Christi Moon Robbins has been a funeral director and embalmer for 18 years, and has been a Certified Crematory Operator with the high-volume third-party crematory East Tennessee Cremation Company since 2018. She also serves as the Family Cremation Center Coordinator there, as well as overseeing Marketing & Member Relations for The Group.

This course is a live training demonstration on a functioning cremation unit. It provides critical training for crematory operators and staff, focusing on preventing and responding to gas and fire-related emergencies. It emphasizes the importance of knowing who to contact and what steps to take in an emergency, thoroughly reviews OSHA's Emergency Action Plan requirements and their practical applications, details the location and operation of both exterior and interior gas valves and emergency shut offs, covers when and how to safely shut off gas in both catastrophic and non-catastrophic events, the proper tools and procedure (including lockout/tagout) for doing so, and the protocol for safely restoring gas service. Participants will learn about the importance of explosive gas alarms, their placement, and recognizing alarm sounds. Finally, the course addresses hydraulic line and cylinder safety, covering identification, potential hazards (heat exposure, flammable/combustible fluids), and the importance of regular inspection.

*This demonstration will be done using a clean, vacuumed cremation unit. There WILL NEVER BE a decedent in the building during this training as that would be unethical and undignified.*
