About the event
About this course:
Dr. Brad Kuchnicki, funeral director and embalmer for 28 years, and OSHA-certified Occupational Safety Specialist and Outreach Trainer— as well as the Executive Director of The Group— will be presenting our first Continuing Education course.
This course provides a concise but comprehensive overview of OSHA regulations specifically applicable to funeral homes and cemeteries (SIC 7261). Participants will gain a clear understanding of general health and safety requirements and their underlying rationale. A significant portion of the course focuses on the Exposure Control Plan (29 CFR 1910.1030), covering its background, objectives, assignment of responsibility, exposure determination, job classifications, and the crucial implementation of universal precautions. The course emphasizes sharps management, including the Needle Stick Safety and Prevention Act, proper sharps
disposal, and the maintenance of a Sharps Injury Log (29 CFR 1904). Participants will also learn about handwashing facilities, work area restrictions, handling contaminated equipment, and the appropriate selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including a detailed inventory and job title-specific PPE requirements. Finally, the course addresses housekeeping practices, including cleaning and decontamination schedules, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
