In loving memory of Dr. Calvin J. Meadows; The Good Shepherd Funeral Home


We kindly request that everyone keep the family, friends, and community of Dr. Calvin J. Meadows in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time of loss. Dr. Meadows and his wife, Beverly, have been dedicated members of The Independent Funeral Group for many years. He was a man of honor and integrity, who had a profound love for his family and community, and he positively impacted our funeral profession. He will be deeply and greatly missed.


Calvin J. Meadows was born June 26, 1956, to the parentage of Cherry Burke Meadows in Thomaston, Georgia. He received Christ at an early age under the pastorate of Rev. Strickland. Later in life he joined Wright’s Revival Center Church and remained there until he married and moved to Alabama. Dr. Meadows met the love of his life, Beverly JeanBrazzell, during an evangelistic crusade in Alabama with his Pastor, Reverend Lee A. Wright. To this union one son was born, Calvin Dreon Meadows. They later were blessed with a bonus son, Harold Bowman. Apostle Meadows was the epitome of godliness, class, and honor, with a very compassionate and understanding heart for others. He touched his community, profession, family, and the church with the love and compassion of Jesus. He was known for his infectious smile and loving humor. He was a brilliant man! If he could think it he could do it.


LIFE IN CHRIST


Dr. Meadows was Senior Pastor of Present-Truth Tabernacle Church which he founded on March 19, 1978. He and Beverly married exactly one week later on March 26, 1978. Present Truth Church is one church in two locations- Montevallo and Centreville, Alabama. He was a much sought-after speaker for conferences, revivals, training, and instruction. He holds a Doctorate of Divinity from St. Thomas Christian College. In 1994 he joined Alabama Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ as a Superintendent. He was later promoted to Administrative Assistant to the Bishop. He served as Chairman of the General Assembly, Chairman of the Board of Superintendents and Chairman of AIM (Auxiliaries in Ministry). Dr. Meadow’s heart was his Daily Communion call where callers joined from around the country seven (7)days a week to hear the word and partake of Holy Communion virtually how special this is. This call is continuing. Hundreds of his sermons can be heard on Calvin J Meadows Facebook from his daily broadcast (3:00pm). He loved the word of God and blessed others through it.


ENTREPRENEUR


In 1994 Dr. Meadows Founded and Established the Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Montevallo, Alabama a renovated property. Six years later in the year 2000, Reverend George Craig approached him about purchasing a piece of property that had been his garden for years. Dr. Meadows purchased it, walked around the grounds praying, he, his wife Beverly, and other church members, and the new building was erected. Dr. Meadows was a Licensed Funeral Director, and so was his wife and two sons. They serve their community with excellence, honesty, and integrity. He was a certified Funeral Service Professional (CFSP), and Certified Cremation Operator (CCO). Dr. Meadows served twelve years on the Alabama Board of Funeral Service, ten of those years as Vice Chairman of the Board. He also helped write funeral service laws and regulations for the state of Alabama. He was a history-maker, In June 2024 Rev Meadows became the first person of color to be sworn in as president of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association. He was Chaplain of the Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association for 10-plus years. Rev Meadows was a Licensed Funeral Director also in the states of Mississippi and Tennessee. He was as a great man – Strong, Courageous -Daring to go where no man had gone, making a mark that could not be erased. His contributions will long be remembered. He was licensed as a private pilot by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2001.


He was preceded in death by his Mother, Cherry Burke Meadows; two brothers, Johnny W. Meadows and Robert Lee Meadows; grandmother, Annie Lee Jones. He leaves to cherish his precious memories is loving and devoted wife, Beverly Jean Brazzell Meadows; sons, Calvin Dreon Meadows and Harold Bowman; grandchildren, Candace Kelley, Damean Kelley; great-grandchildren, Khloe and Karter; two sisters, Evie Ellerbe Elder and Eva Ellerbe; uncle, Aneal Jones; two aunts, Timmie Phillips, Esther McKinney; Sisters-in-law, Regina Renfro Patricia Young, Vanessa Chappell, Caroline Crenshaw, Diane (Charles) Towner; brother-in-law, Robert (Colleen) Brazzell; god-daughter, Tabitha (Conrad) Brown Thomas; Special Friends, Apostle M. Linda Brown, Dr. Douglas Walker, Brother Rodney and GiGi England.
