About the event
About this course:
Christi Moon Robbins has been a funeral director and embalmer for 18 years, and has been a Certified Crematory Operator with the high-volume third-party crematory East Tennessee Cremation Company since 2018. She also serves as the Family Cremation Center Coordinator there, as well as overseeing Marketing & Member Relations for The Group.
This course is a live training demonstration on a functioning cremation unit. emphasizes essential safety practices for crematory operations. Participants learn about the importance of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including appropriate attire, OSHA-compliant safety shoes, and specialized gear for high-heat environments. The course covers the dangers of heat exposure in the crematory setting, both from ambient temperatures and the cremation process itself. Effective stack monitoring practices are discussed, focusing on minimizing emissions, understanding public perception, and utilizing camera systems for remote observation. Participants also receive training on Falcon alarm systems, emphasizing their importance for lone workers and emergency situations. Finally, the course provides instruction on the proper use of fire blankets and fire extinguishers, including hands-on demonstration and guidance on how to use this equipment. This training aims to equip crematory personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a safe working environment and respond effectively to potential hazards.
*This demonstration will be done using a clean, vacuumed cremation unit. There WILL NEVER BE a decedent in the building during this training as that would be unethical and undignified.*
