About this course:
Alex Lewis joined the deathcare industry as funeral and cemetery admin in 2014, and has been overseeing administrative, office, and online aspects of East Tennessee Cremation Company and The Group since 2020.
This course covers the critical role of tone in shaping perceptions, and explores how common service pitfalls— from misread tone to the wrong hold music— can negatively impact families. Participants will learn a purposeful approach to customer interaction, focusing on breaking down communication into message content, phrasing, and manner. The course aims to improve understanding of families’ needs and anxieties, adapting communication styles to individual expectations, and actively listening to the tones of their requests. Practical strategies for answering those requests effectively are provided, including techniques for delivering positive responses with clear next steps and managing expectations when direct answers aren't possible. Participants will also learn de-escalation tactics for defusing tense situations, focusing on identifying the root cause of frustration, demonstrating empathy without being misperceived, and guiding families toward resolution. The course addresses the complexities of compassionate communication, acknowledging cultural differences in interpreting manners and providing guidance on adjusting communication based on verbal and non-verbal cues. Through real-world examples and practical tips, participants will develop the skills to create positive experiences and build lasting relationships.

Where is the webinar hosted, and how does it work?
It will be held through the platform GoToWebinar in an interactive format, so you will need to have a computer or phone with camera and microphone capabilities to attend. You will receive an email with a link to the webinar as the date approaches, which you will use to attend. Each emailed link can only be used by one person, so be sure that each person registering uses a different email address.
You must be present for at least 50 minutes of the hour to receive credit for the webinar. If you are unable to be present for the entire course, please reach out to us and let us know— course purchases can be applied to future courses as per our Refund policy.
How will I receive my certificate of attendance?
After the course, you will be sent your certificate of attendance via email, as well.
I am a member firm/member firm employee— how do I register to attend for free?
Member staff can be registered through the member's login. When logged in to the site, the cost of registration will automatically be waived for all tickets registered. Each staff member attending will need to be registered individually, with a separate email address, for their attendance to be logged, reported, and credited!
