About the event

About this course:

Dr. Brad Kuchnicki, funeral director and embalmer for 28 years, and OSHA-certified Occupational Safety Specialist and Outreach Trainer— as well as the Executive Director of The Group— will be presenting.

This section continues the overview of OSHA regulations specific to funeral homes and cemeteries (SIC 7261), expanding on key safety and compliance requirements. It covers regulated medical waste disposal, laundry protocols, and enforcement/disciplinary procedures related to OSHA compliance. The course details employer responsibilities regarding Hepatitis B vaccination, including post-vaccine evaluation and follow-up for exposed employees, and the use of declination forms. Proper labeling and signage are addressed, along with required training programs, recordkeeping (29 CFR 1910.10), and program evaluation/review. The importance of safer medical devices and appropriate disinfectant selection is highlighted. The section then transitions to the Hazard Communication Program, covering its background/purpose and the process of hazard determination, specifically for formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. It outlines funeral home responsibilities, the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), required training, relevant personnel policies, community hazard communication, and emergency response procedures. The program evaluation process is reviewed, along with specific considerations for formaldehyde exposure, bloodborne pathogens, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), eye and face protection, emergency eyewash/safety showers, medical first aid, chemical storage, and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of chemical classification and labeling.
